600-Win Coach Scott Norwood to Lead Ranger Baseball

RANGER, Texas — Ranger College has announced that Athletic Director Scott Norwood will return to the dugout as Head Baseball Coach, bringing more than 600 career victories and 21 years of collegiate head coaching experience back to the Rangers baseball program.

A member of the 600-win club and one of the winningest coaches in Oklahoma and Texas baseball history, Norwood previously led Ranger College Baseball from 2017 through 2022, transforming the program into a regional contender and restoring a tradition of success.

"Coach Norwood has already demonstrated his ability to build a winning baseball program at Ranger College," said Ranger College President Dr. Derrick Worrels. "His experience, leadership, and commitment to student-athlete success make him the right person to continue moving our baseball program forward."

During his first tenure with the Rangers, Norwood guided the program to more than 120 victories, including a school-record 37-win season in 2022. Under his leadership, Ranger earned its first winning season in more than a decade and secured its first appearance in the Region V Baseball Tournament in nearly 40 years.

Since 2021, Norwood has served as Ranger College's Athletic Director, helping oversee one of the most successful periods in the department's history while continuing to support the growth and development of all Ranger athletic programs.

Prior to arriving at Ranger College, Norwood enjoyed successful coaching stints at the University of Arkansas-Little Rock, Ouachita Baptist University, Sterling College, and Mercyhurst University. His teams have consistently competed for championships, and he has helped numerous student-athletes advance to four-year institutions and professional opportunities.

"I am excited for the opportunity to return to coaching the Rangers," said Norwood. "Ranger College has been home for many years, and I look forward to working with our student-athletes as we continue building a championship culture both on the field and in the classroom."

Norwood's return provides continuity, stability, and proven leadership for a baseball program he helped elevate to new heights. As the Rangers prepare for the upcoming season, they will once again be led by a coach whose track record of success spans more than two decades and over 600 victories.

With a deep commitment to Ranger College and a passion for developing student-athletes, Norwood returns to the dugout ready to lead the next chapter of Ranger Baseball.
