Ranger suffers setback to open conference play

After dropping Game 1 of a conference opening doubleheader, Ranger College grabbed a 3-2 lead headed to the third inning over Hill College. The Rebels countered scoring nine runs over the next four innings, which allowed HC to sweep the series, 15-3.

The Rebels scored one run in the third and fourth, the doubled that in the fifth and hung a five-spot in the sixth.

Ranger grabbed the lead thanks to a pair of RBIs from Andruid Martinez. He added three hits. Hagen Tucker had a hit an RBI.

Amado Almanzar took the loss when he allowed five earned runs over 4 1/3 innings on five hits. He struck out five.

In Game 1, Hill College came out and took control of the conference opener when they scored seven runs in the first four innings. Four runs in the third propelled the Rebels to an 8-0 win.

Cayde Williams went 2-for-3.

HC got after Josh Hendrickson when they scored six earned runs on seven hits over four innings.

At 10-12 on the season and 0-2 in conference play, Ranger travels to Hill College on Saturday looking to even its record.
