Ranger drop heartbreaking DH to Weatherford

Looking to get on track in conference play, Ranger played host to Weatherford College Wednesday for a doubleheader. While Ranger found themselves for long stretches of play, the Coyotes mounted a pair of rallies to sweep the two-game set, 4-1 and 6-5.

DECIDING MOMENTS

GAME 1: Tied at 1-1 entering the top of the ninth, Weatherford loaded the bases with nobody out. Just when it seemed like Ranger was going to find themselves behind, Austin Stokes started what turned out to be an 8-2 double play. Stokes made a running catch on a pop fly and proceeded to throw out Nicholas Evarts at the plate. Now with two outs, it seemed RC might have dodged the bullet. Lachlan Mayo had other ideas, the big Aussie blasted a 3-run home run, which gave Weatherford the lead for good, 4-1.

GAME 2: Ranger found themselves in a very similar situation to end the second game. The difference was RC had the lead with two outs and the bases loaded. Jamie Lovell was in the hole 0-1, when he delivered a 2-out 2-RBI single to put the Yotes back on top, 6-5. Andrew Keefer was thrown out at the plate to end the inning, and Ranger was unable to mount a comeback in the bottom half.

BREAKING OUT OF THE BOX SCORE

Ryan Dufrene delivered the Rangers biggest hit of the day, his 2-out 2-run double capped a 4-run Rangers third inning in Game 2 and put RC up 4-1.

Josh Hendrickson went seven innings in the opener and allowed just one run.

Hagen Tucker smacked a 2-out RBI single of his own to drive in the Rangers lone run in Game 1.

SCHEDULE SAYS

Now at 11-20 on the season and 1-10 in conference play, Ranger travels to Weatherford Saturday for another double dip.
