Ranger silences Thunderbirds

ABILENE – Ranger was right back on the field Monday with a matchup against New Mexico Junior College played at Abilene Christian University. Gilberto Rubio got Ranger off to a fast start with an RBI single in the bottom of the first. RC added runs in the third, fourth, seventh and eighth before the Thunderbirds got on the board on the way to a 7-1 win.

Kaleb Thompson had a double, triple and two RBIs. Noah Winkelman had two doubles and two RBIs.

Austin Smith dominated from the bump going 5 1/3 innings and allowed five hits, no runs and struckout eight.

Thompson doubled the Rangers lead with his RBI triple in the third before Ranger added two runs with two outs in the fourth.

RC has its home opener Friday when they host North Lake College.
