Rangers and Bulldogs split shortened series

CLARENDON -- What was scheduled to be a four-game weekend series between Ranger and Clarendon was cut to just a doubleheader of Friday because of weather conditions. CC used a huge first inning to win the opener going away, 9-1. RC responded with some clutch hitting in the finale to earn a split, 4-3.

GAME 2

Ranger held a 3-1 lead with two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning and for a split second, it looked like they would take that lead to the seventh. But, a dropped third strike allowed the inning to continue and the Bulldogs made RC pay when the next batter went deep for a 2-run home run that tied the game at 3-3. CC threatened to take the lead by putting the next two batters on, but Ranger got out of the inning without allowing another run.

In the top of the seventh, RC flipped the script on Clarendon and with two outs mounted a rally that started with a Noah Winkleman single and culminated in Ricky Rivera driving him in one batter later with what turned out to be the game-winning RBI double.

Dillion Morris made the one-run lead stand up by striking out four of the five batters he faced on the way to a five-out save. Tim Simpson picked up the win in relief.

GAME 1

The day got off to a rough start for RC when the Bulldogs scored seven runs in their half of the first inning, making things worse they did so with only one hit. Granted the hit was a triple, but four walks, a pair of errors and a hit batter sparked the rally for CC. Ranger was never able to recover as they scored their lone run in the fifth inning.

BREAKING OUT OF THE BOX SCORE

On the day, Winkleman had two hits and an RBI.

Rivera had two hits and two RBIs.

Victor Bueno matched Winkleman with a pair of knocks and an RBI.

SCHEDULE SAYS

RC is at Western Texas on Wednesday and returns home Friday for a doubleheader against Odessa.
