Ranger sweeps Vernon getting into conference win column
After the first inning, it looked like the rough start to conference play was going to continue for Ranger. Vernon scored three runs in their half of the inning, however, headed to the bottom of the sixth, RC had taken the lead and would add to it on the way to a 12-7 win. In the finale, Ranger used another big inning to overcome a 4-2 deficit and went on to sweep VC with a 7-5 win.
GAME 1
Ranger trailed early but put together back-to-back three-run innings to grab the lead headed to the bottom of the sixth, 7-5.
Two straight singles by JJ Padilla and Alex Garcia got the inning going for RC. With two on and no out, Noah Winkleman smashed a two-strike pitch over the centerfield wall to push the Rangers lead to five. A walk and hit-by-pitch put two more runners on with still no one out, Tucker Burton came through with a SAC fly and Caden Rosholt smacked a two-out RBI single that put Ranger up 12-5 headed to the seventh.
Vernon added a pair of runs but it wasn't enough to complete the comeback.
GAME 2
Ranger grabbed the lead out of the gates in the second game but found themselves down with only nine outs to go. Winkleman jump started a seventh-inning rally with a leadoff double Kaleb Thompson drove him in and put himself 90 feet from home plate in the process all on the same hit. Victor Bueno came up with the Rangers third-straight hit a run-scoring single to tie the game at 4-4. A one-out walk started the second half of the rally, which was followed by an RBI double from Burton and an RBI single from Rosholt.
Vernon scored one run in the ninth, but Ricky Gerik closed out the win for the Rangers.
