Rangers get in conference win column with sweep of Vernon College

VERNON -- Ranger righted the conference ship with a sweep of the doubleheader vs. Vernon on Thursday. RC traveled to Vernon on Saturday looking to pick up its first series sweep in conference play since at least 2012. Mother Nature didn't make it easy on Ranger, but the Rangers won the opener 3-2 in eight innings and took the rescheduled second game 6-3.

GAME 1

Ranger trailed 2-1 headed to the final inning. That didn't detour the Rangers from sparking a rally. Victor Bueno came through with a sacrifice fly that tied the game at 2-2. Ranger kept VC off the scoreboard in their half of the seventh, which pushed the game to the eighth. Ranger kept the rally sticks going highlighted by an RBI single by JJ Padilla that pushed across the go-ahead run.

Vernon wasn't going to go quietly, however. The Chaps got a two-out double which put the tying run in scoring position, RJ Roberts smacked a ball to Daniel Goncalves in centerfield and he threw home to Anthony Huggins who tagged out Jerry Davis to end the game and gave Ranger a 3-2 win.

GAME 2

The opener went to an extra inning, which meant when Game 2 reached the seventh inning the game was called due to darkness. RC led 5-3 when the game was called.

Huggins gave RC a the two-run lead right before the game was called and Ricky Riveria went deep to seal the deal for Ranger in a 6-3 win.
