Winkleman's walkoff HR leads Ranger to split vs. Hill
Ranger and Hill closed out there series at Ellis Burks Field with an air show going on right behind them at the Ranger Municipal Airport. The classic planes weren't the only thing flying in the air, the Rangers and Rebels combine to hit 12 home runs in 16 innings.
GAME 1
After seeing their lead disappear in the top of the seventh inning, Ranger was ready to mount a rally in the bottom of the inning. Ricky Rivera led off by getting plunked, following a fly out, a single put Rivera, the tying run on second with just one out. Unfourntley, he never advanced as the game ended with RC hitting into a double play. Hill survived to win the opener, 7-6.
Hill took the lead with a pair of home runs sandwiched around a walk in the top of the seventh.
Ranger grabbed the lead in the bottom of the sixth when they scored four runs with two outs. Tucker Burton doubled in two, to tie the game at 4-4. Kaleb Thompson followed with a 2-run home run that put RC up 6-4.
GAME 2
Ranger looked like the depressing loss in the opener was going to beat the Rangers in the finale. The Rebels went up 6-0, but the Rangers came back and got to within 7-6. Hill then jumped back out to an 11-6 lead headed to the seventh inning.
By the time the Rangers were down to their final out, they had the tying run on base, again. This time there would be no game-ending double play. Scott Norwood went to the bench and brought on Noah Winkleman who blasted the 12th and final home run of the day over the 400-foot center field fence, which gave Ranger a 12-11 win.
Ranger began to chip away in the seventh when with two outs Alex Garcia tripled to make it 11-8. Anthony Huggins doubled in Garcia to make it 11-9.
Another triple, this time by Burton put RC within 11-10 after the eighth inning.
