Rangers take series from Lune CC
Ranger College faced Luna Community College in a 4-game series on Feb. 17-18.
Ranger was down 2-0 going into the fifth inning in Game 1. Joshua Comeaux came out swinging in the bottom of the fifth, hitting a single to center field. J.T. Thompson and Adin Moorehouse followed Comeaux's lead, both singled to advance the runners. Jaden Adams then hit a three-run double to left. Gilberto Torres followed with a hard grounder up the middle that scored Adams and put Ranger ahead 4-2 going into the sixth.
Ranger's defense came out strong and shut Luna down.
Caleb Bunch pitched a complete game against Luna allowing only two earned runs.
Game 2 was a close one with the Rangers coming out on top 9-8 in the bottom of the 10th inning. Jaden Adams, Kade Wood, Jhanel Bautista, J.T. Thompson, Xavier Sanchez and Jaxon Haynes all played a huge part in the win by collecting RBI. Gilberto Torres led the Rangers going 4-for-5 and earning two RBI. Joseph Lee earned the win and Xavier Sanchez sealed the deal with a sacrifice fly to left field that scored the game-winning run.
Ranger put up a good fight in Game 3 but lost 14-12. Haynes helped keep Ranger in the running with four RBI. Bautista and Edmundo (E.J.) Alanis played their part, each earning 3 RBI.
In Game 4, Ranger College came back with a vengeance, winning 6-1 over Luna and taking the series. The Rangers stole six bases throughout the game with Bautista stealing two. Van Gupton, Jr. and Jaden Adams earned 2 RBI and Alanis added another. Parker Bigham earned the win, allowing zero earned runs while facing 29 batters. Emir Encalada earned the save, allowing only one hit and zero earned runs.
