Rangers sweep four from Frank Phillips

The Ranger College Rangers swept four straight from Frank Phillips College, taking back-to-back doubleheader wins on February 25-26.

Caleb Bunch led the team to an 8-5 win in Game 1. He faced 21 batters, pitching four innings and only giving up two earned runs. Tristan Thurman received the win, pitching three innings and facing 12 batters. He allowed only three hits and no earned runs. Jhanel Bautista and Jansel Jimenez had two RBI while Kade Wood, Van Gupton, Jr. and E.J. Alanis adding an RBI each.

In Game 2, Ranger won 7-5. Emir Encalada received the win. He faced 24 batters and did not allow an earned run, while giving up just three hits. Ranger had some speed on the bases with Gupton, Jr. stealing two bases, Jaden Adams, Joshua Comeaux, and J.T. Thompson each stealing a base. Jaxon Haynes had four RBI with a 2-run home run. Gupton, Jr., Jaden Adams and Gilberto Torres each had an RBI.

Frank Phillips started off strong, scoring two in the first inning. Ranger immediately came back, scoring two in the second. The Rangers sealed the deal by scoring three in the sixth. Michael Minaya and Micah Ford kept Frank Phillips' bats at bay, allowing only five hits, collectively. Minaya faced 16 batters and gave up one earned run. Ford got the win, facing 13 batters and delivering five strikeouts. Thompson had two RBI. Haynes and Jesus Gonzalez had an RBI each in the Rangers' 5-3 win.

In Game 4, the Rangers came out strong and did not let off the gas, winning 13-7 to complete the sweep. Torres, Bautista, Alanis, and Wood all had homers. Wood went 2-for-3 and drove in three. Torres, Adin Moorehouse and Gonzalez had two RBI each.

Trevor Mathis earned the win, facing 12 batters and giving up just one earned run. Bladimir Ramirez got the save, allowing one hit in nine batters. Joshua Comeaux showed off his speed by stealing four bases.
