Ranger Baseball Twin Bill, Even Thrill: Doubleheader Ends in a Split with Vernon

RANGER, Texas — The Ranger College Rangers hosted Vernon College Chaparrals in a home doubleheader on Saturday April 12, 2025, splitting the doubleheader and splitting the series. 

Game 1 Recap: 

Despite a strong offensive effort, Ranger fell to Vernon in game 1 with a score of 12-7. The game featured 23 total hits, Ranger getting 10 and Vernon getting 13. 

Michael Lozano gave Ranger the early lead with a two-run double in he first inning, but Vernon responded with three runs across the next two innings. Ranger tied it 3-3 in the third on an Andrew Perez single before Vernon pulled away with a four-run fourth, highlighted by homers from Joey Duran and Irvin Leonard. 

Reid Richard hit an inside-the-park homer for Ranger in the fourth, finishing with two RBIs along wth Lozano. Jayden Brown went 3-for-3 to lead Ranger at the plate. 

Duran drove in five runs for Vernon, going 3-for-5. Leonard also had three hits while Vernon turned three double plays in the win. 

Game 2 Recap:

Ashton Fisher hit two home runs and drive in three more to lead the Rangers to a 14-6 win in Game 2 of the doubleheader. 

Ranger trailed 4-0 early but erupted for five runs in the second, highlighted by Koen Piepkorn's three-run homer. Fisher homered in the second and again in the seventh, when Ranger tacked on six runs to pull away. 

Jayden Brown went 4-for-4 with one RBI and two stolen bases. Jeremiah Torres and Piepkorn each drove in three runs. Anthony Kelley earned the win in relief, tossing six innings with four strikeouts and no walks.

Ranger finished with 18 hits and turned three double plays in the win. This win not only splits the doubleheader, but also split the conference series with Vernon. 

Next up for Ranger Baseball is a doubleheader against North Central Texas College Lions in Gainesville, Texas on Wednesday April 16, 2025. First pitch is set for noon.
