Rangers Sweep Home Doubleheader, Earning a Series Win

RANGER, Texas — The Ranger College Rangers swept North Central Texas College Lions in a baseball doubleheader on Friday April 19, 2025 at Ellis Burks Field, earning a series win.

Game 1 Recap: 

Ashton Fisher drove in four runs on four hits in the 16-9 win for game one. Fisher hit a solo home run in the first, then added a two-run single and an RBI double during a 10-run sixth inning that gave Ranger control of the game. The Rangers tallied 12 hits. Thomas Barnhart also homered and drove in four runs. Tui Amosa had two hits and two walks. Ranger drew eight walks total and turned one double play. 

Clint Burkey started on the mound for the Rangers and surrendered eight hits and six runs over four innings, striking out four and walking two. Christian Sanchez and Abel Anzaldua each appeared in relief, wityh Sanchez striking out 2 batters and Anzaldua striking out four. 

Game 2 Recap: 

The Rangers exploded for eight runs in the first inning and never looked back in a 17-7 win over the Lions in game two. Iann Cobos led the way with three hits and four RBIs. Ben Matthews added a three-run homer, and six Ranger players had multiple hits including Tui Amosa, Thomas Barnhart, Ashton Fisher, Reid Richard, and Matthews. 

Anthony Kelley started on the mound and earned the win, allowing seven runs over 4 and a third innings. Ranger played error-free defense with Jose Rodriguez making several key plays. 

Series Recap: 

Back on Wednesday April 17, the Rangers played the Lions in a doubleheader in Gainesville, Texas. They took the first game with a 15-2 win, but lost the second game 0-2. The doubleheader sweep on April 19th earned Ranger 3 out of 4 in the series, securing the series win.
