Rangers Take Game 2 in Doubleheader vs. Leopards
RANGER, Texas — Ranger College and Temple College split a doubleheader Saturday, April 26, with the Leopards taking the opener and the Rangers bouncing back in the second game.
Game 1 Recap:
Temple jumped out to an early lead with a sacrifice fly in the first inning, followed by two runs in the second, two in the sixth and four in the seventh to cap a 9-0 shutout. Ranger managed just two hits—one each from Jayden Brown and Michael Lozano—while being held scoreless.
Game 2 Recap:
Ranger responded in the second game with a 10-1 victory. The Rangers scored twice in the first inning, added two more in the second, and one in the third. Temple got on the board with a run in the fourth, but Ranger answered with three runs in the fifth and two in the sixth.
Thomas Barnhart led the offense with two home runs—one in the first inning and another in the sixth—driving in four runs. Starting pitcher Anthony Kelley earned the win, allowing just three hits and one run over 6 2/3 innings. He struck out four and walked three.
The Rangers recorded nine hits in the win. Barnhart, Brown and Reid Richard each had two hits. Catcher Jose Rodriguez led the defense with five putouts, and the team played error-free in the field.
