Rangers Rally Late to Open Season with 14–10 Win at Galveston

GALVESTON, Texas — January 28, 2026 — Ranger College baseball opened the 2026 season in thrilling fashion Wednesday evening, defeating Galveston College 14–10 in the opening game of the Island Invitational.

After jumping out to an early lead, the Rangers weathered a midgame surge from the Whitecaps before exploding for six runs in the seventh inning to regain control and secure the Opening Day victory.

Enyart Delivers the Decisive Blow

Freshman Jordan Enyart powered Ranger's offense, finishing 4-for-6 with five RBIs, highlighted by a go-ahead grand slam in the seventh inning that swung momentum back to the Rangers. Enyart also drove in a run with a sixth-inning single as part of his standout debut.

Ranger struck first in the opening inning when Brandon Leon doubled home two runs, Will Moffit lifted a sacrifice fly, and Joey Rodriguez added an RBI single to make it 4–0. Moffit later drove in another run in the third to extend the early advantage.

Galveston responded with a six-run fourth inning to take a 7–5 lead, followed by a solo home run in the fifth to stretch the margin. But Ranger answered emphatically in the seventh, plating six runs on just two hits — capped by Enyart's grand slam — to reclaim the lead at 13–8.

The Rangers added insurance in the eighth on a solo home run by Samuel Kelley, who also recorded multiple hits in the opener. Rodriguez chipped in three hits and an RBI, while Leon and Moffit each drove in two runs as Ranger totaled 11 hits in the high-scoring affair.

Haygood Earns the Win

On the mound, Cooper Haygood earned the victory after tossing 2.2 innings of relief, allowing three runs while striking out four. Ranger used multiple arms in the opener, with Ethan Loera providing 2.2 scoreless innings late to help close out the game.

Despite issuing several walks early, Ranger's pitching staff settled in down the stretch and limited Galveston's opportunities after the seventh inning surge.

The Opening Day win gives Ranger College a strong start to the season as the Rangers continue play in the Island Invitational.
