Mason leads Rangers to win over Chaps

Kaylon Mason posted a double-double on Saturday afternoon and helped spur the Ranger College men's basketball team to a 1-01-94 victory over Midland College in front of a small crowd in the Dorothy Garrett Coliseum in Big Spring.

Mason finished the game with 30 points and 10 rebounds, Overall, he was one of seven RC players to reach double figures in scoring in Ranger's fifth straight win.

With the win, Ranger College improved to 10-3 for the season. The Rangers will play Howard College on Sunday, beginning at 5 p.m. in the final game of the two-day mini-tournament.

The Rangers got off to a blistering start against the Chaparrals. Ranger College shot 61.3 percent from the field in the first 20 minutes of play and raced to a 54-52 halftime advantage. As a team, RC hit on 17 of their first 28 shots from the field, including six of 10 tries from behind the three-point arc, in the first half.

The three-point shot carried RC throughout the contest. Ranger buried 14 of their 26 three-point attempts. Midland, which trailed by as many as 17 in the second half, made just 9 of their 23 attempts.

The Chaps did make a late run, cutting Ranger's lead to four with less than 3 minutes left. The Rangers sealed the win with clutch shooting from the free throw line in the closing moments.

Angelo Mabala and Addison Archer finished the game with 13 and 12 points, respectively. C.J. Evans and Jahsemar Olembe added 11 apiece, while Chase Collins and Anthony Medlock tallied 10 each.

Jaden Kempson led Midland College with 26.
