Ranger Men Earn Runner-Up Finish Behind Modingwane’s Historic Run
HOBBS, New Mexico — September 26, 2025 — The Ranger College men's cross country team continued its breakthrough season with a second-place finish at the Dr. Steve McCleery Invitational, highlighted by a school-record performance from Amantle Modingwane and multiple personal bests.
Modingwane Breaks 24 Minutes
Freshman Amantle Modingwane placed runner-up overall in the men's 8K, clocking 23:58.2 — a new Ranger College school record and the first sub-24:00 8K in program history.
Personal Bests Fuel Team Finish
Freshmen Sammy Herrera (26:51.5) and Joseph Simon (26:55.8) both ran lifetime bests, securing key scoring positions. They were joined by Khanya Yali (10th, 26:03.8) and Zachery Roome (25th, 27:46.0), as the Rangers' top five combined for a total team score of 65 points.
Team Standings
Ranger finished second only to powerhouse New Mexico JC, beating out South Plains, Western Texas, and NCAA Division II squads in the field. The Rangers posted a team average of 26:19 per runner, showing their depth and consistency.
Building Toward Championships
With Modingwane rewriting the record books and multiple runners hitting personal bests, the Rangers continue to assert themselves as one of the top junior college programs in the region. They will now turn their focus toward the championship portion of the season with confidence.
