Ranger College Men’s Cross Country Claims Top Spot as Modingwane Smashes School Record at Old Glory Gallop
FORT WORTH, Texas — October 11, 2025 — The men's cross country team from Ranger College competed in the prestigious Old Glory Gallop, hosted by Dallas Baptist University, finishing 16th among a field of 40 teams — a strong performance against stiff competition. Headlining the day was freshman standout Amantle Modingwane, who crossed the line first overall and rewrote the Ranger College record books in the process.
Modingwane's Breakout Victory
Amantle Modingwane led the pack from start to finish, claiming the individual title in the race. His winning time set a new school record for Ranger College's 8-K program, showcasing both his strength and promise. Notably, his closest rival was last year's third-place finisher at the NJCAA Nationals, underscoring the level of performance Modingwane delivered on race day.
Team Effort in a Deep Field
While Modingwane stole the spotlight, the Ranger College team performance was equally noteworthy. Against 39 other squads — including NCAA Division I and strong junior college programs — the Rangers pulled together for a 16th-place team finish. Sophomore Khanya Yali finished 35th, running his personal best. Freshmen Sammy Herrera and Joseph Simon also ran their personal best at the meet. This showing reflects growing depth and momentum in the program.
Coach's Thoughts
"The men are improving every meet," said Coach James Majenge. "They are slowly finding their strides and with the help of Amantle and Khanya Yali, we can cause a lot of upset at the conference and regional meets. We just need to continue working and staying healthy."
Looking Ahead
With Modingwane's historic run and the team gaining experience in large-scale competition, the Rangers are in a strong position as they push toward championship season. They'll look to build on this performance with sharper execution, deeper pack-scoring support, and continued school‐record efforts in the weeks ahead.
