Modingwane Wins Region V Title, Ranger Men Place Fifth at Championships
HOBBS, New Mexico — October 25, 2025 — The Ranger College men's cross country team turned in one of its strongest performances of the season at the NJCAA Region V Championships, placing fifth overall in a competitive field hosted by New Mexico Junior College. Freshman standout Amantle Modingwane continued his stellar season by capturing the individual Region V championship and setting a new school record in the process.
Modingwane Leads the Way
Modingwane dominated the 8K race from the opening mile, pulling away from the pack to finish first in 23:21.0 — the fastest time ever recorded by a Ranger College athlete at the regional meet. His win marks the latest milestone in a historic freshman campaign that includes multiple meet titles and two school records this fall.
Consistent Pack Performance
Behind Modingwane, the Rangers demonstrated depth and consistency with four additional runners finishing in the top 40:
- Sophomore Khanya Yali — 21st place, 25:28.5
- Freshman Sammy Herrera — 33rd place, 26:06.0
- Sophomore James Evetts — 35th place, 26:17.3
- Sophomore Zachary Roome — 37th place, 26:21.7
Their efforts secured Ranger's fifth-place team finish, a strong showing against a deep field of nationally ranked Region V programs.
Looking Ahead
With Modingwane leading the charge and multiple teammates hitting statement marks, the Rangers enter the final stretch of the fall campaign full of momentum. The team now shifts its focus to the NJCAA National Championships, where they aim to close the season with another record-setting performance in Fort Dodge, Iowa on Saturday November 8, 2025.
