One Win Each: Conference Softball Doubleheader Ends in Split

HILLSBORO, Texas — Ranger College Softball split a conference doubleheader at Hill College on Tuesday, with each team earning one win.

Game 1 Recap:
The Lady Rangers took an early lead in the top of the first inning. An error allowed one run to score, followed by Alyssa Meza's sacrifice fly, which brought in two more runs. Hill College answered in the bottom of the first with a run, making it 3-1.

Ranger extended its lead in the third inning. Meza doubled to drive in a run, and Emily Olivarez singled to score two more. Hill responded with two runs in the bottom of the third on a home run, cutting the deficit to 6-3.

The Lady Rangers pulled away in the top of the sixth, scoring five runs on five hits. Rachet Houston and Arianna Meza both singled to drive in runs, and another run scored on a Hill error. Meza singled again, followed by Olivarez, who added another run, giving Ranger a 13-4 lead.

Meza pitched the win, allowing five hits and four runs (three earned), striking out five and walking one.

Game 2 Recap:
Ranger took an early lead in the second game. In the top of the first, Amelia Meece hit a sacrifice fly, followed by Meza's single and a Hill error, each scoring one run. Hill answered with two runs on a home run to left field, tying the game at 3-2.

Marlie Strong hit a two-run homer in the top of the second to give Ranger a 4-2 lead. However, Hill responded with five runs on five hits in the bottom of the inning. The Lady Rebels added a solo homerun in the third, extending their lead to 8-5.

Ranger scored one run in the top of the sixth, but Hill responded with six more runs in the bottom of the inning, making it 15-6. The Lady Rangers scored three additional runs in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings, but Hill's late rally gave them a 15-8 win.

The Lady Rangers will face Hill College again in a doubleheader on Saturday, March 22, 2025, at noon at Ron Butler Field in Ranger, Texas.
