Ranger Track & Field Shines Bright at NJCAA Indoor National Championships

LUBBOCK, Texas — For the first time in Ranger College's 99-year history, the Track & Field team had twelve national qualifiers that competed in the NJCAA Indoor Track and Field National Championships, and the Rangers shined bright at the event. 

NJCAA Nationals Day 1 Recap
The men's Distance Medley Relay (DMR) team, featuring Paul Barmoa, Tristan Galvan, Khanya Yali, and Victor Vazquez Rosas, set a new school record with a time of 10:31.99, finishing 15th out of 18 teams.

The women's DMR team, consisting of Stella Lagat, Alfrenique Knowles, Macie Morales, and Alyssa Mabry, placed 15th out of 16 teams.

Yali also broke the 2023 record in the 800 meters with a time of 1:54.49, finishing 17th out of 38 athletes.

NJCAA Nationals Day 2 Recap
The women's 4x800-meter relay team finished 9th out of 15 teams, just missing All-American status. The team included Macie Morales, Andrea Teruel, Alfrenique Knowles, and Alyssa Mabry.

In the men's mile, Khanya Yali ran a time of 4:15.87, placing 17th out of 32, while Victor Vazquez Rosas recorded a time of 4:19.58 for 20th place.

The women's 4x400-meter relay team, made up of Charity Rayford, Chastity Rayford, Alfrenique Knowles, and Macie Morales, finished 16th out of 19 teams with a time of 3:58.75.

"We were just happy to be here to show the world that we are here to compete." Stated Coach De'Torrian Green. "This is the first time Ranger has had 12 athletes at indoor nationals, and I couldn't be more proud of how they competed. Now, we're looking toward outdoor season to post better times and show that Ranger track and field is here to compete."

The Rangers return to action starting their outdoor season on March 14 at the Texas Southern Relays in Houston.
