Ranger College Track & Field Dominates First Division I Outdoor Meet with Clean Sweep
HOUSTON, Texas — Ranger College Track & Field again made history by sweeping both the men's and women's divisions at their first-ever Division I outdoor meet, marking a significant milestone for the institution.
On the women's side, Victaline Mutai capped the meet with a standout performance, taking first place in the 5K with a time of 18:34.90. The victory not only earned her a spot at the outdoor nationals but also ranked her first in the nation. Other notable finishes for the women's team included:
- Stella Lagat, second place, 18:51.54
- Alyssa Mabry, third place, 19:38.40
- Myla Greenzweig, fourth place, 19:43.84
Alfrenique Knowles placed first in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:01.57, securing third place in the nation.
Andrea Teruel finished second in the 800-meter dash with a time of 2:30.66, ranking second nationally.
Tania Miles placed third in the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.28, earning eighth in the nation. In the women's 1500-meter, Mutai took first place with a time of 5:07.40, followed closely by Lagat at 5:07.45 and Mabry at 5:18.04.
On the men's side, key performances included:
- Paul Barmoa, first place, 15:25.97 in the 5K
- Khanya Yali, second place, 15:56.98
- Victor Vasquez Rosas, third place, 16:10.09
- Luis Martinez, 16:48.10
Zac Williams placed second in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 55.41, just one second shy of the national qualifying mark, setting a personal best.
Peyton Fasani finished fifth with a time of 51.26, improving his personal record.
In the 1500-meter, Yali set a personal best of 4:01.64, just two seconds shy of the national qualifying time, while Vasquez Rosas finished at 4:13.14 and Barmoa placed fourth at 4:17.80.
"I'm very excited for what outdoor holds," stated Coach DeTorrian Green. "We didn't run 7-10 athletes who needed a break from competition this season."
Ranger sprinters will return to action on March 21, 2025, at the Prairie View Relays.
