RC pushes back start of women’s basketball, volleyball seasons
Fans of Ranger College's women's basketball and volleyball programs will have to wait a few days more before seeing the teams hit the hardwood.
Ranger College administrators, citing COVID-19 safety precautions, announced season-opening activities for both teams had been postponed as an unidentified member of each squad had tested positive for the virus. The move will postpone at least two games for each team.
Women's head basketball coach Skip Townsend said college administrators made the decision to push back the start of the season on Tuesday following mandatory pre-game tests. Townsend said he and his staff would try and reschedule the games with Trinity Valley and Midland for later in the season.
The RC women's team was scheduled to begin its season on Saturday, Jan. 23, at home against Trinity Valley. They were slated to host Midland on Jan. 25.
The decision to push back the start of the season hits the volleyball team hard. RC was scheduled to open its season on Jan. 23 by hosting a 3-team round-robin event with Victoria College and Western Texas College. They were also scheduled to travel to Seminole, Okla., on Jan. 23 to play Cowley County and Seminole State.
The postponements mark the first regular-season contests Ranger College has had to cancel or postpone due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Last weekend, the college canceled a three-team scrimmage involving the men's basketball team.
