Rangers Fall at McLennan in Conference Road Matchup

WACO, Texas — January 17, 2026 — The Ranger College women's basketball team dropped a conference road game Saturday afternoon, falling 63–51 to McLennan Community College at the Highlands Gymnasium. The loss moves the Rangers to 7–11 overall and 2–2 in conference play.

Slow Second Quarter Proves Costly

Ranger opened the game strong, leading 16–4 after the first quarter, but McLennan responded with an 11–4 second-quarter run to seize momentum and take control heading into halftime. Despite a more balanced second half, the early scoring drought proved difficult to overcome.

Fields Leads the Rangers

Akyla Fields paced Ranger with 18 points, adding five rebounds and two steals while playing all 40 minutes. Imani Johnson finished with 10 points and six rebounds, while Shamariah Gibbs contributed six points off the bench. Inside, Kayleigh Murphy added four points and three rebounds, helping Ranger battle McLennan's size in the paint.

Defensive Effort Keeps Rangers Close

Ranger forced 17 turnovers and recorded nine steals, keeping the contest within reach throughout the second half. The Rangers also converted 12-of-17 free throws, but struggled from the field, shooting 32.7% overall and 15.8% from three-point range.

Moving Forward

Despite the setback, the Rangers showed resilience on the road and will look to regroup as conference play continues.
