Ranger Women’s Basketball Rolls Past Southwestern Christian in High-Scoring Conference Win
RANGER, Texas — January 21, 2026 — The Ranger College women's basketball team turned in one of its most complete performances of the season Wednesday evening, defeating Southwestern Christian College 92–79 in a conference matchup at Ron Butler Gymnasium. The win improves the Rangers to 3–2 in conference play and 8–11 overall.
Ranger set the tone early, jumping out to a 28–22 first-quarter lead and extending the advantage to 49–36 at halftime. The Rangers continued to push the pace in the second half, outscoring the Rams 23–14 in the third quarter to seize control of the game.
Johnson and Fields Lead the Charge
Imani Johnson delivered a standout performance, scoring a game-high 22 points on 7-of-13 shooting while knocking down six three-pointers. Johnson also added seven rebounds, five assists, and a steal in an all-around effort.
Akyla Fields followed with 15 points and a double-double performance on the boards, pulling down 10 rebounds while dishing out six assists. Her presence helped Ranger control the glass and keep the offense flowing.
Balanced Scoring Across the Lineup
Ranger received strong contributions throughout the rotation:
- Favour Emeka finished with 13 points, hitting all six free-throw attempts.
- Dawn Roberson added 12 points and five assists, shooting 5-of-6 from the field.
- Shamariah Gibbs provided a spark off the bench with 10 points on 5-of-6 shooting.
- Mahinarangi Bezzant chipped in eight points, including two three-pointers.
Efficient Offense Makes the Difference
The Rangers shot an impressive 53.2% from the field and 62.5% from three-point range, knocking down 10 three-pointers on the night. Ranger also won the rebounding battle 38–24 and totaled 21 assists, showcasing strong ball movement and offensive balance throughout the contest.
