No. 13 Thunderducks Open National Tournament Next Wednesday

Dallas College Richland women's basketball team will play Northland Community & Technical College (Minn.) 6 p.m. next Wednesday in the National Junior College Athletic Association Division III Tournament at the Brownwood Coliseum in Brownwood, Texas.

The tournament runs through March 14. Games will be live streamed on the NJCAA Network, and Live Stats are available.

The 13th-ranked Thunderducks (10-10) are making their first national tournament appearance in program history. Richland beat Dallas College Mountain View 65-62 in Saturday's NJCAA Division III Central District championship to punch its ticket to Brownwood.

Thunderducks sophomore guard Sanaa Darensburg leads the Thunderducks in scoring at 12.5 points per game, and is averaging 4.5 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 1.7 steals per game. Sophomore guard Mahagony Jackson-Walker is averaging nine points, 5.2 rebounds and just under a steal per game. Freshman guard Kiana Thornton is averaging 8.2 points and 4.3 rebounds, while shooting 35.2 percent from three-point range. Sophomore center Aspen Hicks is scoring 7.8 points and grabbing a team-leading 7.6 rebounds, while shooting just under 70 percent at the free throw line. Sophomore forward Kristen Thomas is averaging 6.7 points and 7.5 rebounds. Sophomore forward Essence Hurndon is pulling down 6.5 boards per game.

The No. 2-ranked Pioneers (23-5) fell to Anoka-Ramsey Community College 77-57 Sunday in the North Plains B District championship game. Northland's Kenzie Dahl is averaging 17.9 points and 6.2 rebounds. Josie Peterson is averaging 14 points and 6.2 rebounds. Jade Reese is averaging 13.8 points, 8.1 rebounds and 4.2 steals.

This will be Richland's first neutral site game of the season. The Thunderducks have won their past two games.
