Ranger College Women’s Soccer Opens Season with Impressive Draw Against #6 Tyler Junior College

TYLER, Texas – The Ranger College women's soccer team opened their 2025 season on August 22 with a statement performance, battling to a 0-0 draw on the road against nationally-ranked No. 6 Tyler Junior College on Friday evening.

The Rangers showed defensive resilience throughout the match, holding off a relentless TJC attack that produced 14 shots, including six on goal. Sophomore goalkeeper Sara Mendivelso delivered a standout performance between the posts, recording six saves to secure the shutout and preserve the tie.

Despite being outshot, Ranger College maintained composure and organization in the backline, anchored by defenders Meriem De La Iglesia, Giovanna Mingo, and Laura Ruiz, who frustrated TJC's offensive efforts. Midfielders Sara Cervantes and Sofia Moreno Sabater also played key roles in keeping the Rangers competitive throughout the full 90 minutes.

"This was a great test for us right out of the gate," said Coach Julio Guerrero. "To open the season against a top-ten opponent and come away with a clean sheet is a credit to the work and determination of our players. This result gives us a lot of confidence moving forward."

The draw marks a strong start to the season for the Rangers, who will look to build on the momentum as they continue non-conference play.

Ranger Women's Soccer will return to action on August 26th at 2:00pm when they play Jacksonville College in Jacksonville, Texas.
