Haile, Garcia grab top honors in RC Jack-O-Lantern contest
Trinity Haile and Jasmin Garcia did the unthinkable on Friday. They beat the rest of the women's volleyball team by themselves.
They did it with paint brushes and imagination.
The two teamed to win Ranger College's 2020 Jack-O-Lantern contest. In all, their custom-painted pumpkin edged out nine other entries to win top honors. The winners were selected via voting from members of the college's faculty and the student body.
As part of the Halloween activities, RC head coach Nicole Smith and assistant head coach Ashley Mahan had members of the team pair up and create Halloween pumpkins. Each entry was then placed on display in the Dr. William and Sharon B. Campion Welcome Center.
"It was such a great idea," said Ranger College President Dr. William Campion. "They were wonderful, and so many people enjoyed them. I certainly hope this becomes an event that happens every year. The amount of smiles and happy faces it created was outstanding."
Haile, a sophomore from Hamilton, and Garcia, a freshman from Brownsville, created a pumpkin showcasing various movie scenes, including Peter Pan. Other entrants included a black pumpkin with green hair, a Santa Muerta-themed pumpkins, as well as a pumpkin decorated as a cow, Mickey/Minnie Mouse, the Texas flag and Spongebob Squarepants.
Members of the RC squad participating in the event included Raelyn Theiss, Bailee Gaspard, Katy Davis, Aaliyah Hardy, Kaycie Shannon, Emeleigh Terry, Caitlin Beasley, Jamyah Anderson, Garcia, Serena Thomas, Erakah Easley, Isabelle Domingue, Sakura Thomas, Haile, Daycoria Meadows, Jordan Mahan, Jordan Brown, Gloria Guerin and Alaina Wilson.
