Lady Rangers picked 4th in NTJCAC volleyball poll

The Ranger College women's volleyball team finds itself in a bit of an unusual situation as they prepare for the start of the 2021 season: They're expected to be a middle-of-the-pack performer.

Despite the return of several all-conference performers, Ranger College is picked to finish fourth in the Northern Texas Junior College Athletic Conference race. In all, six teams will be fielding squads in the 3-month season that will run through March.

Sophomores Kaycie Shannon and Jordan Mahan lead the Lady Rangers into the season which begins on Jan. 22 with a home game against Victoria College.

Hill College was the odds-on favorite to finish atop the regular-season standings. The Lady Rebels received two first-place votes from the six coaches casting ballots.

North Central Texas College and Temple College were selected to finish second and third, respectively.

Cisco and Vernon were picked to take fifth and sixth.

At the conclusion of the regular season, all six teams will advance to a postseason playoff tournament. The winner of the tournament will advance to play the winner of the Western Junior College Athletic Conference division, with the winner advancing to the national tournament.
