Lady Rangers put 4 on all-Region V North roster
The Ranger College Lady Rangers turned more than a few heads this season on the volleyball court, including those of opposing coaches. RC had four players earn postseason honors recently.
Gloria Guerin and Sakura Thomas highlighted the Lady Rangers' all-conference selections. The two freshmen earned first-team honors after playing key roles in the Lady Rangers' ability to battle its way to fourth in the final standings.
A middle blocker from Corpus Christi, Guerin blossomed into one of the top young stars in the conference this season. She finished as the Lady Rangers' leader in several offensive categories, including kills. As a rookie, she pounded out a team-leading 176 kills and 30 blocked shots. Thomas, a native of Friendswood, finished the COVID-19-abbreviated season with 313 digs and 59 sets.
Jordan Mahan and Kaycie Shannon, a pair of veteran standouts, were named to the second-team all-conference squad. The 2021 Outstanding Female Student, Mahan posted a team-best 538 assists as a sophomore, as well as registering 206 digs and 64 sets.
Mahan was also selected to the all-tournament team.
A Midwestern State University signee, Shannon had a solid outing in 2021. A two-year starter, the Pleasanton native, posted 131 kills and 28 blocked shots during the season.
Hill College's Camryn Specia and North Central Texas College's Lindi Boling grabbed two of the top honors handed out by the NTJCAC coaches. Specia was tabbed the conference's Player of the Year, while Boling was named the Defensive Player of the Year selection. Hill College's Brooklyn Decosta was the 2021 Newcomer of the Year winner, while Hill head coach Jordan Fish captured the Coach of the Year honors. NCTC's Isabella Moore was the Offensive Player of the Year.
