Lady Rangers claim NTJCAC XC crown
Stellah Lagat will probably pencil in Harry McAdams Park in Hobbs as one of her favorite places after her performance on Saturday.
All she did was carry the Ranger College women to the Northern Texas Junior College Athletic Conference while competing in the Region 5 Cross Country Championships in New Mexico. The NTJCAC and Region 5 meets were held simultaneously at the park.
Led by Lagat's winning time of 10 minutes, 23.30 seconds, the RC women won the NTJCAC title by scoring just 35 points. Hill College placed second in the team standings with 45. North Central Texas College and Cisco College were third and fourth, respectively.
Macie Morales and Myla Greenzweig also starred for Ranger College. Both legged out solid efforts in the women's 5-kilometer race and finished in the top 10. Morales places fifth at 20:12.30. Greenzweig was sixth at 20:21.70.
Faith Chemutai and Julia Perez rounded out the top five scorers for the Lady Rangers. Chemutai was 11th in the individual standings with a run of 21:17.60. Perez finished one spot behind her, at No. 12 with a time of 21:26.90.
Overall, all six RC runners finished in the top 15. Alyssa Mabry finished 15th at 21:46.0.
