Nakito Sets School Record, Rangers Finish Second at McCleery Invitational
HOBBS, New Mexico — September 26, 2025 — The Ranger College women's cross country team continued its historic season at the Dr. Steve McCleery Invitational, finishing second overall behind host New Mexico Junior College. The meet featured a deep field of two-year and four-year programs, and the Lady Rangers rose to the challenge with another school record and multiple personal bests.
Nakito Resets the Record Books
Freshman standout Elizabeth Nakito placed runner-up individually, clocking 18:22.7 for the 5K distance. Her time broke her own school record set earlier this month, making her the fastest women's 5K runner in Ranger College history for the second time this season.
Personal Bests for Morales and Mutai
Close behind was Victaline Mutai, who placed 6th overall with a lifetime-best 19:24. Macie Morales also delivered a breakthrough performance, running 19:37.4 for 9th place, her fastest 5K to date.
Strong Pack Running
Rounding out the scoring lineup were Alyssa Mabry (12th, 19:54.4) and Julia Perez (16th, 20:55.4). Stellah Lagat (18th, 21:28.6) provided key displacement points to help secure the runner-up team finish.
Team Results
Ranger College scored 41 points, placing second behind New Mexico JC's 32. The Lady Rangers' team average of 19:38 per runner highlighted their depth and improvement.
Looking Ahead
With another school record and multiple PRs, the Lady Rangers continue to prove themselves as one of the strongest women's cross country squads in program history. They will look to build on this momentum as the season progresses toward championship competition.
