Rangers Hold Off Southwestern Christian in One-Point Conference Thriller
RANGER, Texas — January 21, 2026 — The Ranger College men's basketball team delivered a dramatic finish Wednesday night, edging Southwestern Christian College 83–82 in a tightly contested conference matchup at Ron Butler Gymnasium. The win lifts the Rangers to 8–12 overall and 2–2 in conference play. Ranger led 36–32 at halftime, then withstood a strong second-half push from the Rams, who scored 50 points after the break. Despite the late pressure, the Rangers made just enough plays down the stretch to secure the one-point victory.
Whitten and Ndiaye Pace the Offense
Devin Whitten turned in a standout performance, scoring a team-high 19 points on 6-of-9 shooting while knocking down three three-pointers and going a perfect 4-for-4 at the free-throw line. He also added three assists and a steal in 27 minutes. Mafatime Ndiaye followed with 15 points, hitting two shots from beyond the arc and going 5-for-5 from the free-throw line. He also pulled down five rebounds and dished out two assists.
Strong Interior Play
Dave Meriwether was efficient inside, finishing with 12 points on 6-of-7 shooting while grabbing a team-high eight rebounds.
Jalen Hooks added 10 points and seven rebounds, providing steady production on both ends of the floor.
Balanced Contributions
Cam Brown chipped in 12 points, while Javon Alexander added 11 points off the bench, hitting two three-pointers and helping Ranger maintain offensive balance throughout the night. Ranger finished the game shooting 43.9% from the field, 36.4% from three, and an impressive 89.5% at the free-throw line. The Rangers also recorded 22 assists on 29 made field goals, highlighting strong ball movement in the narrow win.
